When is it time to replace or repair your siding?

Sign #1: Your home’s heating and cooling bills are high.
If you notice that your utility bills are high, this may mean that there are flaws in your siding that are causing leakage. If there are spots that you know are cracked or leaking, this means you’ll need siding repair right away. Do a walk around the outside of your home and inspect the siding and make note where repairs need to be made.

Sign #2: There are pieces of warped or rotted siding.
During your walk around the home, if you notice any parts of the siding that are rotting or warping, don’t ignore this. Take a sharp object and gently poke under the warped siding to see how solid it is underneath. If it is soft, that is a sure sign that this section will need to be replaced right away. This can lead to rotting and extensive damage to the home. In addition, if you see any fungus, mold, or mildew on the siding, this can indicate that there are cracks or holes in the siding that are allowing water to penetrate through. This should be investigated right away so it doesn’t get worse. If there is extensive dry rot, the siding should be completely replaced.

Sign #3: The siding color is fading.
Faded color doesn’t necessarily mean that your siding needs a complete replacement, but it is something that you should be aware of. Siding isn’t meant to last forever. If it is starting to fade in color, this means that it may be losing its effectiveness.
